Halloween Bash 2018: Huge shout of thanks to those of you who made the Halloween Bash a spooky, tasty, fun night. With Jessica's creative painting of at least 12 scary portraits adorning the photo booth and community hall, transformed into a haunted house. With Christine, Jeremy, Vicky, Eva, Vanessa, Sophia, Jessica and Kristen all spending the afternoon decorating, Mark providing DJ dance music and Barry helping to set up games downstairs, we had a fantastic event with triple the attendance from our previous Halloween party. Without all of your planning (Barry, Jeff, Vanessa, Christine, Sophia, and Jessica) this would've been all on Jessica's shoulders as the first event was. Grateful for shared planning, creativity and enthusiasm this year that you each provided. Thanks to all who stayed to clean up (Adam, Jack, Syd, Christina, Aiden, Chantelle, Ben, Mark, Kristen, Jessica, Eva, Yui, Mira, Barry, Vanessa and anyone else whom I forgot). Together we are each essential parts of the Body of Christ...the eyes, hands, feet, voice, ear and heart...partnering with God's work in the world. Looking forward to the next gathering of the TLC community. And hope to have a photographer around next time to capture the joy of being together. Grateful for you in Christ,

Pastor Jennifer

Oktoberfest 2018: Thank you to all who organized, sold meal and raffle tickets, set-up, cleaned up, catered, ate, danced, sang, and made Oktoberfest a wonderful gathering of folks dedicated to global community development. With individual donations plus funds raised from Oktoberfest, we have sent $1402 to ICMS to be directed to Harvest Hands. There will be a further $300 coming from Faith Life that we will also forward on for Harvest Hands. As well, with donations and proceeds, we have sent $667 to CLWR, which will be matched (x4) by the Canadian Government. Together we are changing the world!

2018/2019 Youth and Mentors: Eva Wilson: Diane Jackson, Emma Ladmore: Liz JussilaChristine Wei: Diane Parsons, Vicky Wei: Andrea Reyes, Nathan Wu: Jack Valkenier, Jeremy Wu: Tim LeDrew, Liam Vanderende: Chris Pedersen, Sophia Liu: Vanessa French.

Right now, gifts to the Canadian Lutheran World Relief will have four times the impact! Thanks to the CLWR’s membership in the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, and the support of the Government of Canada. CLRW gifts will be matched on a four-to-one basis.

TLC celebrates a generous relationship with SUMS: Did you know that every Tuesday Uschi Bohn, Helen Specht, Hilde Abt, Joyce and Horst Flemig pick up Cobbs bread and bring it to TLC? Then you can pick up bread after worship and donate $2/bag to Surrey Urban Mission. In the past 11 years and 8 months, this, together with Albert Rempel’s eggs, has yielded a fruitful harvest of $13,684.28 for SUMS, who provides over 3000 meals/month to hungry and homeless neighbors in Whalley. Did you know every Saturday, Grade 11 student Christine Wei volunteers at SUMS serving food? You could become a listening ear during the lunch hour at SUMS, building a friendship with those who are eating. Every small act of kindness is multiplied by God’s grace, bringing about God’s kingdom here on earth through you. Thank you for your generosity.

PARENTS OF YOUNG CHILDREN: We welcome children to participate fully in worship, providing worship bags with colouring pages, a children's bulletin with puzzles and activities, age-appropriate Bibles and a Kids' Message as well as Inter-generational Activity during the sermon at the back of the sanctuary. We encourage you to whisper to your children throughout the service so that they can follow along and/or ask questions. Please see the brochure in the pews regarding how to guide children in worship. If necessary, we have a nursery beneath the sanctuary which includes live audio feed from the sanctuary, a changing table, books and toys.

THANK YOU TO ALL TEEN AND ADULT KIDS CAMP VOLUNTEERS: Huge shout of thanks to Tammy Stanford, Kids Camp Coordinator extraordinaire! We offered camp from 9am-3pm, Monday to Friday, without Camp Luther counselors, rather relying on a fantastic group of teens (Christine Wei, Vicky Wei, Kerry Song, Jeremy Wu, Nathan Wu, Maya Jones (Bartman), Pavneet Dhaliwal, Sara Stanford, Liam Vanderende, Elias Bircher) and adults (Mark Vanderende, Karen Steele, Chris Pedersen, Linda Bartman, Rita Hagman, Jenn Gill). Chris Pedersen built a backdrop of a farm field and a sower, designed and painted by Pavneet and Sara for worship.
